The opposition People's National Movement (PNM) said Monday the end of the curfew was long overdue.
Member of Parliament for Diego Martin North East, Colm Imbert, told local media it should not have gone past the first week after the State of Emergency was declared.
"From what we have been told, the Government had information with respect to a threat which, in our opinion, they should have been able to deal within the first few weeks," Imbert told the state TV service, CNMG.
"There was absolutely no reason for the curfew to have been extended for as long as it was," he added.
Imbert declared that in his view there is also no point to a State of Emergency without a curfew. "I think people will need to look a little deeper into this situation and see if there can be any good reason why the State of Emergency should continue."
The party's chairman, Franklin Khan, also welcomed the end of curfew and he too said the Prime Minister should have announced the removal of the state of emergency.
Khan said if crime in the country has been suppressed to the extent which Persad-Bissessar claimed it has been, then there is no need to keep the state of emergency.
He added that the measure is putting restrictions on citizens and groups such as trade unions and political parties.
Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley will hold a media briefing Tuesday to give his views on the situation.
