Attorney General Anand Ramlogan said Wednesday national security takes precedence over other considerations.
He was responding to calls from sveral groups for an end to the state of emergency, which is causing hardships especially for businesses.
The latest call came Wednesday from the Trinidad &Tobago Chamber of Commerce. The opposition People's National Movement has been calling for an end tio the measure since it was declared in August.
Ramlogan told local media the Government is paying attention to what all the stakeholders are saying.
"We take note of what people say and yes, we will be guided by the law enforcement authorities in this matter.
"We will also have regard for what people on the ground are saying, but bear in mind that people on the ground may not be privy to the intelligence and information that the national security agencies will have in their possession," Ramlogan declared.
He said the Cabinet decided on the emergency measures based on intelligence of a specific national security threat.
"We are constantly monitoring and reviewing the State of Emergency as it relates to the conduct of criminal activities," the AG said.
"When we are advised by the Minister of National Security and the law enforcement agencies that we have arrived at a stage where we can favourable consider the removal of the State of Emergency, we shall do so," he added.
He noted that there are constant reviews of the situation with at least three meetings per week chaired by National Security Minister, Brigadier John Sandy, who will give Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar a detailed briefing on the Committee's findings when she returns from her trip to Australia on Sunday.
Persad-Bissessar chairs the National Security Council.
