Jearlean John's lawyer has called for the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Integrity Commission chairman, Eric St Cyr.
Gerald Ramdeen, acting on behalf of the chairperson of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) sent a letter to the Commission Monday stating that St Cyr was "unfit" to hold office.
He cited St Cyr's confirmation to the media that John was under investigation without advising John about the investigation. St Cyr confirmed the probe in an interview with the Trinidad Express newspaper but did not give specific details.
The Express reported that the probe was likely started following allegations by a man about what he called a conflict of interest involving John at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). John is the managing director of the HDC. John has already denied the allegations and reported to police that a man had threatened her.
Ramdeen stated that St Cyr's comment has damaged his client's character.
"The statements made by the chairman of the Commission in this matter are unfortunate and have caused my client great concern. The alleged complaint brought to the attention of the Commission has already been the subject of a response by the Commission and is one that is being pursued with the mischievous and frivolous intention to cause damage to my client's reputation and character," the letter stated.
"My client's instructions, having regard to the foregoing is to call for the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Integrity Commission as his actions no longer make him fit to hold the position of Chairman of the Commission.
"Further, my client now calls upon the Commission to make an immediate determination in this matter as any delay in this matter further damages my client's reputation and character," the letter continued.
Ramdeen accused St Cyr of committing "a serious breach of the secrecy provisions of the Commission for matters of this nature to be disclosed to members of the media by none other than the chairman of the Commission".

Ramdeen added, "The actions of the chairman of the Commission in the circumstances of my client's case has had the effect of destroying the confidence my client has in any investigation by the Commission into this matter."
The lawyer said, "The result of any investigation into this matter even if favourable to my client, which I have no doubt it would be, cannot now, ex post facto, cure the irreparable loss and damage to my client's professional reputation that my client has been made to suffer over the past few days."
