Jearlean John wants IC to conduct probe "without further delay"

Jearlean John's lawyer wrote the Integrity Commission Thursday asking for the probe of his client to be conducted “without further delay”.

Gerald Ramdeen's letter said, “I now call upon the Commission to determine the investigation of this complaint without further delay in the interest of my client and the wider public interest of transparency, accountability.”

The controversy over the investigation led to the resignation of the chairman of the commission, Eric St Cyr on Tuesday.

John had complained about St Cyr's conduct after the chairman told a reporter on September 30 that the commission was investigating a complaint against her. At that time John was not told about the investigation.

Ramdeen's letter also said the proposed legal action by John against the chairman of the Commission "has been overtaken by subsequent events and my client will now reassess her legal options.

He added, “I indicated previously any delay by the Commission in the determination of the investigation into the alleged complaint against my client would cause severe prejudice and damage to my client’s reputation.

"This matter has now been in the public domain for more than two weeks since the unfortunate comments of the previous Chairman.”
