The Chairman of the Integrity Commission, Dr Eric St Cyr, has resigned with immediate effect.
A release from the Office of the President Wednesday said St Cyr's resignation letter dated Tuesday October 11, 2011 took immediate effect in accordance with the rules of the Integrity in Public Life Act.
St Cyr has been under pressure to resign since he confirmed to the media last week that the Integrity Commission was conducting an inquiry into an alleged conflict of interest matter involving UDeCOTT chairperson, Jearlean John, without first telling John about the probe.
John's lawyer had written to the Integrity Commission demanding St Cyr's resignation.
Gerald Ramdeen accused St Cyr of committing "a serious breach of the secrecy provisions of the Commission" by speaking to the media about the matter.
"The statements made by the chairman of the Commission in this matter are unfortunate and have caused my client great concern," Ramdeen added, noting that the matter that the commission is pursuing is with the "mischievous and frivolous intention to cause damage to my client's reputation and character."

John's line minister, Dr Roodal Moonilal, Also suggested that one option for St Cyr was to resign.
Moonilal said, "He (St Cyr) should look at his position in the circumstances and there may be various options available to him including apology, a public explanation and a departure from office.
"Mr St Cyr is a sincere man, he is a very experienced gentleman and I am sure he would know what to do."
John told local media she is not surprised at St Cyr's resignation. She suggested that he should answer for breaching of the rules.
"I think the media still should press, he cannot just resign and ride off into the sunset. One needs to find out what he had done. He can't do that. He cannot write a quick resignation and turn tail and run."
She called on the Integrity Commission to "quickly treat with this so-called probe that he said has been launched against me."
