Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard has given instruction for six police officers to be charged with crimes linked to the arrest and beating of three men who were allegedly shocked repeatedly with a Taser gun at the Chaguanas Police station last year.
The officers, who are members of the Central Division Task Force and Robbery Squad, will be charged with misbehaviour in public office.
The charges against them are in connection with an incident involving two brothers and their neighbour.
The officers reportedly beat Randy and Ricardo Youk-See, and Kyron Baptiste, of Tunapuna. They are alleged to have also tortured the men and made death threats against them.
The men reported that police detained them on March 11, 2010 at Price Plaza, Chaguanas and took them to the Chaguanas Police Station where officers beat them with a golf club and also cuffed and kicked them. They said the police also used a Taser gun to shock and taunt them.
They claim that more than 11 officers took turns shocking them with the Taser over a period of five hours.
