Police find gun, drugs in abandoned home in Las Cuevas

Police found a suitcase Thursday morning containing a gun, ammunition, drugs and a military uniform. The North Eastern Division Task Force made the discovery during a search of an abandoned house in Las Cuevas in Trinidad's North Coast.

They went to the house based on a tip and found the black suitcase with a home-made shotgun and four shotgun cartridges along with other items including 3 kg of compressed marijuana and 1kg of pure cocaine.

Officers told the media the combined street value of the drugs is about $55,000. This is the same geogrpjical areas where police found 13 firearms, including an Uzi and a Mack-10 on September 8.

In that raid police found:

  • 1 Bushmaster
  • 1 Mack-10
  • 1 Uzi
  • 1 Tech-9,
  • 2 self-loading rifles
  • Three 303-rifles
  • One .25-rifle
  • 4 pump action guns
  • 17 assorted magazines and over 10,000 rounds of assorted ammunition
  • 1 kg of marijuana
  • 3 bullet proof vests and 2 ski masks
The UZI is one of the world's most sophisticated weapons that is used worldwide by the armed forces, secret services, police and special forces. Earlier in the month police also seized five powerful guns from the TTPost facility near the Piarco International Airport. Officials said the weapons came from the United States and were to be shipped to Thailand.
