Watson Duke told reporters Monday that more than 5,000 workers with the Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) in Trinidad & Tobago will soon be made permanent.
The President of the Public Services Association (PSA) said this is based on recent discussions he had with Health Minister Fuad Khan.
Duke said there was a concern about job security at the RHAs after some personnel were told that their contracts would not be renewed.

Duke said there was a concern about job security at the RHAs after some personnel were told that their contracts would not be renewed.
Duke said based on that situation he met the minister and an agreement was reached. He said many of the workers have been with the RHAs since 2007.
He added that some workers have been temporary employees for an manay as 10 years.
"An assessment is being made to all those persons who are out of work because of the non-renewal of their contract. An assessment will be made based on availability of positions and on a need analysis and as soon as that is done, we will be recruiting workers, taking back some, taking fresh workers as the case may be," the PSA chief said.
Duke plans to meet the minister again to discuss ways to pay off arrears owed to workers in the shortest time possible.
