The Trinidad & Tobago cabinet on Thursday approved approved more $4 million to invest in scholarships for studies in health and social work.
Public Administration Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan said 35 scholarships will be awarded for under graduate and post-graduates studies for the term beginning in September.
The scholarships are in critical allied health disciplines, she said, adding that the focus in that area is in keeping with Government’s determination to develop the health sector.
Scholars will pursue studies in the fields of social psychology, drug and substance abuse and counselling psychology. The minister said citizens have complained that the country does not have enough social workers.
Some of the other health scholarships will be for studies studies in hospital administration, physiotherapy and radiography. These professionals will be needed for the new primary care health centres the Government planned to construct.
