The Public Services Association (PSA) and the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) signed a five per cent agreement Thursday that gives the lowest paid worker a monthly salary of $6,000.
PSA president Watson Duke made the announcement at the signing of the collective agreement, which provides for a five per cent increase for the period 2008-2010.

Duke said, "For a while, the workers of the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago were managing a first-class airport in Trinidad and Tobago with a third-class salary. It was very demotivating for people to come to work and continue working in a beautiful building, first-class."
He added, "I wanted to be able to get this salary for the Public Service, but we have been able to achieve that today in the Airports Authority and, somehow, I feel justified. The minimum salary in the Airports Authority is now $6,000."
The PSA chief complimented the managers. He said, "They wanted to create an environment of trust where the worker is rewarded for his hard work, and with us, they made negotiations quite easy."
Deputy chairman of AATT, Felix Hernandez, returned the compliment. He told Duke the PSA negotiating team acted professionally and was always "understood the economic situation of the country and the Airports Authority."
