Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has asked the Integrity Commission to indicate whether there are any other pending complaints against her before the Commission regarding her stay at the private residence of Ralph and Maureen Gopaul in Tunapuna or any other matter.
Her query was contained in a letter which was sent to the Commission on Wednesday after Opposition Senator Fitzgerald Hinds claimed she misled the population on this issue.
In her letter to the Commission, the Prime Minister said “The only complaint of which I was notified by your Commission on this issue was dismissed. Copies of your letter were in fact distributed to the media to verify same on Thursday 28th July at the weekly post-Cabinet briefing.
“I have not been informed of any other complaint against me that may be pending before your Commission and hence I am extremely concerned about the defamatory insinuation by Senator Hinds that I misled the population on such a serious matter."
She asked the Commission for a prompt response and clarification as she considered the allegation by Hinds to be “serious and ill founded.”
“I would be grateful if you could bring the contents of this letter to the immediate attention of the relevant commissioner who is in charge of this investigation,” Persad-Bissessar concluded.
