Preliminary investigations point to pilot error as the main contributing factor to Caribbean Airlines Flight 523 crash at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) last Saturday, according to a report in Starbroek News.
The paper attributes its report to an unnamed source close to the investigation. It says, according to the source, information from the flight recorders as well as marks on the runway confirm that the jet touched down close to halfway along the length of the runway.
In addition it said the preliminary investigations also indicate that air traffic control at the airport is more than likely in the clear and poor visibility was also ruled out, citing the same source.
The plane touched down in stormy weather and crashed through a fence. It broke into two as it came to a halt. No one suffered life threatening injuries.
Investigations are continuing.
