The world renowned theatre company “Moscow Ballet on Ice” will have three special performances at Queen’s Hall, Port of Spain on Wednesday and Thursday August 24th and 25th 2011 respectively. The other performance will be staged at 4.00 p.m. on Thursday 25th to facilitate children.
Moscow Stars have been warming the hearts of audiences all over the world with spectacularly designed ice shows for all ages. The touring group, “Moscow Ballet on Ice” comprises 20 performers who will present, for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago, “SWAN LAKE and FANTASY ON ICE” – real ice.
The theatre’s authentically original choreography, unique skating styles and dramatic compositions are celebrated around the world.
For the Trinidad audiences, they have chosen to stage Swan Lake, of the Russian Piotr Illich Tchaikovsky, with choreography by the Frenchman Marius Petipa. The ballet is under the artistic direction of the ex Olympic champion Igo Bobrin, who founded the group.
The main dancers are Elena Pingacheva and Pavel Lebedev, who interpret, respectively, the prince and the swan in the first story and the prince and Odette in the second montage. Both are ex world champions of ice dancing.
The costumes for Swan Lake are specially adjusted to take into account the great versatility of movement that is required on ice.
The visit that the “Moscow Ballet on Ice” is making forms part of a tour that includes Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. Among the countries which they will visit following their performances in Trinidad include Aruba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands,
The history of the “Moscow Ballet on Ice” began 28 years ago, when the maestro Bobrin founded it. He remains as the artistic director while his wife, Natalia Bestemianova, is the director of the group. It has performed more than 3,000 shows in 78 countries.
Moscow Ballet on Ice is one of the three ballet companies of its kind in the world. In their travels in the Far East, China, Korea and Japan, they are billed as “Bolshoi on Ice".
Tickets are priced as follows: $500.00 for each performance. Children pay half of that for the matinee show on August 25.
Part proceeds from sales of tickets will be donated to the Rainbow Rescue Foundation, a home for socially displaced, homeless and "hard-to-handle" boys in Belmont.
