Moonilal demands immediate apology from Hinds to PM

Roodal Moonilal believes that Opposition Senator Fitzgerald Hinds owes Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar an apology.

The Housing Minister made the statement to the Express newspaper Friday in connection of the accusation made by Hinds that the Prime Minister had misled the population with respect to the Integrity Commission's letter stating that she was not under investigation.

Persad-Bissessar read that letter to the media on July 28. This week Hinds took issue with it and said the Prime Minister was not telling the truth and said he had a letter from the Integrity commission that said an investgation of the PM was continuing.

Persad-Bissessar immediately wrote to the commission seeking clarification and produced a letter from the commission dated August 4 stating that there was no investigation of her.

Based on that Moonilal told the paper if Hinds fails to apologise the PM could take legal action against him. Moonilal said the entire controversy begs the question as to whether Hinds's letter was authentic.

"I would like to know whether the letter he read is authentic, maybe it was a manufactured letter as was his story," Moonilal told the Express.

"I thought the Prime Minister exposed him under the light and I am not surprised that he's gone into hiding. The PNM campaign has been a plethora of lies and the average citizen cannot trust them anymore," he added.

"Mr Hinds should apologise to the country for seeking to bring the Prime Minister into disrepute in such a malicious manner, failing which his political leader should take appropriate action and remove him from the Senate, clearly he's unfit to hold public office," Moonilal said, adding that he expects an apology "from him to the Prime Minister and the nation within hours."

"He has been exposed both by the Integrity Commission and the Prime Minister as a prankster ... if he cannot apologise then a legal course may be the only option," Moonilal declared.
