One of the issues before Cabinet at its weekly meeting Thursday will be whether the 2012 budget will be read from the new location for Parliament - Tower D at the Port-of-Spain International Waterfront.

The cost of the project is between 52 and $54 million.
Moonilal told the media the cost of construction, design and outfitting of Tower D could be approximately $42 million plus additional costs associated with the physical relocation of Parliament from the Red House to the waterfront.

Moonilal said Parliament will pay the relevant recurrent expenditure.
The Minister said Cabinet's approval of the money for the project is vital since any delay could cause the project to slow down. "There is a framework already approved by Cabinet that allows for us to proceed,” he stated.
Moonilal also said that there will be some sittings of Parliament at the Red House to deal with legislative matters before the end of the current fiscal year on September 30.
One of those will be the repeal of the land tax legislation the Manning PNM government passed in 2009. "The Government has not imposed this tax, so we kept our promise of no property tax. No one has paid property tax since we came into office,” Moonilal noted.
