And Ashworth Jack says action is urgently needed to resuscitate the island's economy.
Jack says the evidence of a depressed economy can be seen at malls and business centres in Tobago. He has refuted claimed made by the THA that the island's economy had recorded growth and was doing better than Trinidad's.
"A number of business people in Tobago are actually on the verge of losing their businesses. Hotels are about to be closed down. Other small businesses are on the verge of collapse," he told reporters.

He added, "The Banking Association would have also met with the Minister of Finance to talk about the number of businesses that they might have to foreclose on."
He noted that several construction projects have been shut down since the 2009 Tobago House of Assembly elections, putting workers in that sector on the breadline.
However he said all is not lost. "I want to tell Tobagonians to keep faith because I am sure, between now and next couple of months, even weeks, you will see a project opening around every corner."
