About 30,000 members of the Congress of the People (COP) are eligible to vote for a new political leader of their party in the leadership election Sunday. The election is based on a one member, one vote system that is also used by the United National Congress (UNC).
The party's founding leader, Winston Dookeran, is not in the race.
There are four candidates: Deputy leader and Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar, Sport Minister Anil Roberts, Vice Chairman Vernon de Lima and floor member Nalini Dial.
Most observers believe it is a straight contest between Roberts and Ramadhar and give Ramadhar the edge over his cabinet colleague. Ramadhar is a founding member of COP.
Voting is scheduled to take place at 18 polling stations across the country between 8 am to 4 pm.
