WASA completes laying of 29KM water main in record time, saves millions

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) on Wednesday completed the laying of a 29 kilometre trunk main from Navet to San Fernando that will increase the supply of pipe borne water to 300,000 people.

It's one of the longest pipelines in the country and it was done in record time and at a cost that was much lower than budgeted.

Project Leader, Mano Bridgelal,
"The cost of this project was $117 million but it was budgeted at $303 million."

That's a saving of of $186 million dollars. And there was more good news on this project.

Through a lot of innovative engineering and the use of in house resources the delivery time for the project was cut by more than half.

This was supposed to be a two-year project but the People's Partnership government completed it in just nine months.
