PP's top 20 list of achievements in first year in government


As the People's Partnership government prepares to celebrate its first year in office, it has identified 20 of the most significant achievements of the first 12 months in service to the nation.
  1. Children's life fund 
  2. Laptop computers for all first formers in secondary schools 
  3. Raising the pension to $3000.00 per month 
  4. Raising the minimum wage from $9.00 to $12.50 per hour 
  5. Passing strong legislation to deal with gangs, kidnapping, wiretapping, human trafficking and firearms 
  6. Commencement of payments to Clico policyholders and HCU depositors 
  7. Revamping the incentives for agriculture including dropping the lending rates at ADB 
  8. Creation of the Ministry of the People committed to reducing poverty 
  9. Introduction of rural buses and more PTSC maxis for school Children in rural communities to go to school
  10. Decision to build a school for the baptist community 
  11. Completion of "free flowing" highway from Port of Spain to Chaguanas,  including removal of lights at El Socorro and Aranguez 
  12. Ordering of 19 buses for differently abled 
  13. Handing out of land deeds to former Caroni workers 
  14. Building of police bays on highway to focus on crime and bad driving 
  15. Decision to build a campus of UWI in Debe 
  16. Completion of 28km water line from Navet to San Fernando in record time and a saving of $186M 
  17. Supporting the firing of Nizam Mohammed from position as chairman of police service commission chairman 
  18. Firing of Mary King as Senator and Minister 
  19. Anti kidnapping legislation that provides for no bail for 120 days and imprisonment for the rest of one’s natural life for the offence of kidnapping 
  20. Implementing a Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism, return of Carnival to the Savannah
