Scores of teachers in red T-shirts abandoned their classes Friday and demonstrated in Port-of-Spain Friday to demand what they call a “fair” wage increase.
President of T&T Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) Roustan Job who led the protest. He called on Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) Stephanie Lewis to complete the External Labour Market Survey (ELM), in order to negotiate a just settlement for the teachers.
Job insisted that teachers will not accept the Government’s five per cent offer. He said since 2000, teachers' salaries have been based on an ELM survey, which is based on a graded system on a scale of one to eight.
