The government of Trinidad and Tobago has identified 14 buildings in locations across the country to house people who live on the street.
Douglas said the Ministry of Housing will provide 14 contractors to bring the buildings up to the required standards and his ministry would manage each facility.
Minister in the People's Ministry Lincoln Douglas made the announcement Wednesday at a street dwellers stakeholders conference in Port of Spain.
He said his ministry has collaborated with the Ministry of Local Government to find the buildings which are located in Port-of-Spain, San Fernando, Chaguanas and Arima. He said he hopes that the buildings would be ready soon and that as many as 100 people who live on the streets could move in by the end of the year.
The minister said its a short-term strategy to end street dwelling, adding that the aim is to help rehabilitate people who live on the streets.

He said a task force is working on a long-term plan. He urged all non-governmental organisations and citizens to help the ministry achieve long-term goals to rid the nation of street dwelling.
