Friends, former colleagues and family joined celebrities and politicians Friday for the funeral service for Allyson Hennessy at St Finbar's RC Church in Diego Martin.
The popular television personality died last Saturday after a prolonged illness. She was 63. She was cremated later following a private ceremony.
Sally Hospedales delivered the eulogy in which she noted that in the last month of her life Allyson put on a brave face "just to make the family laugh and feel happy."
Hospedales also highlighted Allyson's passion for the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.
"Allyson's love of her country, the people and culture, in fact, of all things Trinidad and Tobago, was unquestionable," she said.
Cricket icon Brian Lara also spoke at the funeral service.
"For the last 25 years, I felt like the son she never had. I am extremely proud of her life and her achievements," he told mourners.
"How could one person be so many things to so many people? Allyson was unwavering in her support of sport and culture, and in so doing, championed the cause of Desperadoes, local cricketers and footballers.
"She loved rugby. The Carib Rugby team was her team. It is hard to sum up Allyson in one sentence. She was a mother figure to many, a sister, a mentor, a guide. She made my laugh, she taught me pride, humility and compassion," Lara said.
