Attorney General Anand Ramlogan has received all the relevant preliminary data with respect to the bidding process for a $40 million trucking contract with NP.
A specially appointed review team collected the data, which has now been handed to the AG, who explained that the team has not made any recommendation.
Ramlogan said he is acting out of an abundance of caution in getting an independent team to look into the whole process.
He said such a move became necessary after the energy minister recused herself from the process. He said once that happened the rest of the team that was supposed to conduct the investigation had to do the same.
The AG said the team has only; collected preliminary data and has not given him any advice or opinions. And he brushed aside speculation that the government is trying to santise the report.
"I heard some talk about the report not turning out the way we wanted. There was no report from that Committee," he said.
He added, "That process was aborted the minute the Minister had signalled her intention. I allowed the Committee one or two days to complete the collection of the relevant information and documentation because that would obviously have assisted me in my review."
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has stopped the award of any contract. Ramlogan said if investigators find any irregularities, NP would have to scrap the bidding process and start it over.
The AG promised that next Thursday he will make public the findings of the investigating team.
