Works minister Jack Warner said on Friday work has started on the restoration of President's house.
He said work on the project will cost about $4.5 million. A local contractor - Alpha Engineering and Design (2002) Ltd. - has been hired to do the job.
One of the buildings in the compound collapsed just before the May 24 general election. Warner had promised to get the historic property repaired within a year.
During a tour of the property last July, the minister said it was an indictment against "all of us as a people that the President’s House has been allowed to decay in this way."
He added, "I took the technicians there and gave them instructions that the house must be refurbished in the shortest possible time."
