Police on Friday rescued kidnapped schoolgirl Parvati "Peggy" Maharaj, 17. They found her on Blanchisseuse Road, Arima and have arrested four suspects, including two women.
Police have also located Peggy's father's vehicle, which the kidnappers stole when they seized her. Detectives will carefully check the vehicle for clues that could help them solve the case.
The teenager spent the evening at the Arima District Hospital, where doctors conducted examinations to determine whether she was harmed. Police said there were no visible signs of violence.
Reports say two kidnappers who were guarding Peggy fled and abandoned their victim when they learned that officers were closing in on them. They say that's when the teen made a dash for freedom and was spotted by officers who were looking for her.
Police interviewed Peggy before reuniting her with her family. The high school student was taken at gunpoint from the family home in Cumuto on Wednesday evening.
