Businessmen Steve Ferguson and Ishwar Galbaransingh have been granted bail.
Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh agreed on Thursday to release both men on Thursday on $2 million bail each, with different sureties.
The two men are wanted in the United States on several fraud charges. They have been held at the Maximum Security Prison, Golden Grove, for nearly 10 months.
Lawyers for the state and Attorney General Anand Ramlogan chose not to object to bail and instead maintained a “neutral” position.
Boodoosingh is presiding over a judicial review of the process by which the AG signed off on the men’s extradition warrants.
Boodoosingh ordered the attorneys to file and exchange written submissions by May 2, with replies by May 10. He set the trial for May 10.
In granting bail, the judge laid out several conditions:
1. There be separate sureties
2. the bail be approved by the registrar of the Supreme Court
3. they surrender their travel documents to the state
4. give an undertaking they will not apply for any other travel documents
5. report to the Four Roads Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays between six in the morning and six pm
6. they be allowed to travel to Tobago for business interests
