Residents invite PM Kamla with visit them in the ghetto

"We walking with yuh in de ghetto"
When Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar toured Piccadilly Street Port of Spain on Wednesday her mission was to witness an exercise by the protective services aimed at maintaining law and order in the community.

However while she was there people who live in the area invited her to drop in a see for herself what life is like in the ghetto. She obliged and heard first hand accounts from people who complained that their MP has neglected them.

Opposition Whip Marlene McDonald is the MP for the area. The residents complained to Persad-Bissessar that their MP ignores them because many of them voted against the PNM in the May 2010 general election.

"I personally was ah PNM and I find that because of the lack of representation, I supported COP and because of that, if I go in she office dey, she go call police for me or either close the door in meh face," the Trinidad Express quoted one resident as saying.

The person who complained was Elizabeth Greasely, who said: "Miss Kamla, come in de ghetto and meet de people. We suffering in de ghetto. Please come and meet us." They told the Prime Minister of deplorable living conditions.

"We walking with yuh in de ghetto. We suffering in the ghetto. We want help. It have children in the ghetto, single parent, nothing to send them to school...We can't get work. It have children who can't even self go to school because their single parents not even working and we ain't have no kinda representation at all," Greasely said.

Persad-Bissessar listened to the complaints and promised to do all in her power to assist the people in the community.
