2 dead, another still missing in boating accident off Chaguaramas

A boat carrying seven friends overturned Sunday morning in Chaguaramas, killing two of them. A third person is still missing and presumed dead. The others swam to shore.

The two have been identified as Derek Cardinez, 49, of Emerald Drive, Diego Martin and 19-year-old Shakeena Martin, of Bhagaloo Street, Enterprise, Chaguanas. Cardinez was a massage therapist who worked for the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

Coast Guard divers and other security personnel are still searching for the third person, Brian Surez, 35.

The boat overturned off Williams Bay, near the Kayak Centre just before dawn and the two bodies were recovered about five hours later.
