Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner celebrated his 68 birthday Wednesday with his new junior minister, Stacy Roopnarine.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced on Tuesday that the 26-year old rookie MP for Oropouche West would be the new minister working with Warner. She replaces Rudy Indarsingh who has moved to the labour ministry with responsibility for the Unemployment Relief Program (URP).
The event was really to sign the agreement for the purchase of nine new turbo prop aircraft for State carrier Caribbean Airlines. But Roopnarine's appointment was the "big news". Warner said the appointment was the "best birthday gift I could have received".
He also boasted about his young minister. "She got her A-Levels at 17 and at 20 she was a qualified engineer and at 25 she was a member of Parliament. Today, she is a minister."
