2 killed in brazen daylight murder in south Trinidad

The crime scene in Marabella
Gunmen armed with AK47 assault rifles shot and killed a 30-year old man in a bold daylight murder in Marabella in south Trinidad Monday. Stray bullets from their weapons also killed a mother of four.

It happened just before noon outside Pamela’s Mall. Media reports say the gunmen stood over the victim's body after he fell, pumping several more bullets into him. They ran off after his body caught on fire from the intensity of the high powered weapons.

The victim was identified as Anthon “Jim” Jones. The innocent woman who died from the stray bullets was Sandra Henry, 48, of Dallas Avenue, Cocoyea in South Trinidad.

Police said Jones was the target of last Thursday’s double shooting in Marabella. Jones had just been released on $175,000 bail on an arms and ammunition charges after spending three months in prison.

He had just attended court in San Fernando. Police believe his killers followed him after he left in a taxi. Local media reports quote eyewitnesses as saying that two armed men in a white SUV attacked Jones as he emerged from a taxi and was walking in front of the mall.

Henry was walking by with her sister and died after she was sprayed with bullets. Police said Henry was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Police have not made any arrests in the killings.
