The College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of T&T (Costaatt) has hosted a farewell function for Rodney Charles, who is leaving his job as Senior Policy adviser to the college to take up a challenging new appointment as Trinidad and Tobago's Ambassador to the United Nations in new York.
Speaking at the function, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Surujrattan Rambachan said he is optimistic that Charles will bring value to Trinidad and Tobago. Rambachan said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was very careful in choosing him to represent the country at the UN, noting that he seconded the selection of Charles whom he has known for more than 30 years.
“His qualities are varied and many but among them is the humility he carries about himself,” the minister said.
Rambachan said in the past the country's foreign missions did not perform to the credit of the country and added that diplomatic appointments under his watch that will change, especially with respect to foreign direct investment, trade and the export of the country’s entertainment and diverse culture.
“These are not just political appointments. These appointments will bring value to Trinidad and Tobago.” Rambachan said. He said when Charles starts his new job next month he will have to hit the ground running since there were a number of issues to pilot.
