The National Council for Indian Cultue (NCIC) will honour Foreign Affairs Minister Surujrattan Rambachan as its main guest at this year's Divali Nagar celebrations.
Rambachan has been involved in religious work for several years and has officiated at three yagnas and discourses at Divali Nagar, including his 100th yagna. He has published three books of discourses arising out of his cultural work at the Nagar.

His brother, Prof. Anant Rambachan, who teaches comparative religion in the United States, officiated at the first Divali Nagar in 1987 and at nine others, publishing eight books as a result of the yagnas.
This is the 24th year that NCIC is hosting the event. Divali Nagar started in 1987 at a temporary site at Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas. It's first chairman was Dr Rampersad Parasram; Hans Hanoomansingh was NCIC president at the time.
The 9-day event leading to Divali on November 5th, 2010, begins on Wednesday at the NCIC headquarters in Chaguanas. This year's theme is "Global Hindu Pilgrimage Sites", with a focus on the main places of Hindu worship across the world.
The opening night this year will feature cultural performances and speeches by Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston "Gypsy" Peters and Rambachan.
President Max Richards is scheduled to attend on November 1 and deliver greetings; Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will be a special guest on the eve of Divali.
A special feature of the celebration this year is nightly pertformances by a cultural troupe from India, sponsored by the Indian High Commission in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Institute.
