Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed her "profound sadness" at the death of former Head of the Public Service, Doddridge Alleyne who died at his home in Trinidad Saturday.
Alleyne, who was born in Tobago, served as Trinidad & Tobago's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York in the early 1980's.
In a statement, the Prime Minister noted Alleyne's long career in public service, which included Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister and the first Head of the Public service in Trinidad and Tobago. He was also a Chairman of the state-owned oil company Trintoc.
"The former diplomat and senior public servant was among the first cadre of officials who shaped this country's economy and government bureaucracy in the period just before and immediately after independence in 1962," Persad-Bissessar said.
She also expressed condolences to the family, including Tobago Development Minister Vernella Alleyne-Toppin, who is Alleyne's neice.
