Environmentalist and community activist Rhea Mungal died Monday night after suffering a massive stroke. She was 46.
Rhea was one of the leaders who fought with others like Dr Wayne Kublalsingh against the construction of the Alutrint smelter project and ESSAR steel mill.
Mungal had devoted her life to community projects and used the blogosphere to lobby for national causes. She was unmarried and had no children.
Kublalsingh said "She was a key figure in the struggle to protect the environment. She was a fearless, spirited and dedicated woman. She lobbied for the people and died a fighter. Although she suffered with hypertension, she was very active in our struggles."
I knew Rhea since she was a child growing up in our village of Mc Bean in Central Trinidad. We often spoke about her dreams. She was always full of life. We will all miss her.

A tribute:
"Rhea was a true inspiration with an upbeat attitude and a constant smile. She was a great example for all of us and during her stay in this world she made a most valuable contribution to society.
"Those of us who knew her were truly blessed, if only for a little while.
"May she now run through the garden of eternal life, a garden that is blessed to have such a beautiful soul like hers now residing. She will be greatly missed.
"Paulette Branker - UK."
