The Sunday Guardian is reporting that two former government ministers are engaged in a plot to topple Keith Rowley.
The Guardian said its source named the two ministers but it did not publish the names. It quoted its sources saying, “We did not expect the coup to happen so soon. We were looking for people within the party itself to make trouble; we were not expecting them to be working with outsiders at all."
The paper cited the source as saying the PNM is "not surprised by one of the names that is being called.
That particular individual never had the interest of the party at heart, period...It was always about themselves and their personal gain. The other name that is behind this plot came as a surprise, but at this point no one can be trusted.”
There are many reports that former Prime Minister Patrick Manning has remained silent because of a secret plan to reinstate him as leader of the PNM. However Manning has publicly declared that is not true and has pledged support for Rowley.
However, many people inside the party are unhappy with Rowley, which lends credence to some of the rumours about plans to unseat the PNM leader.
