Deputy Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams is expected to receive a report Wednesday on an investigation he ordered one month ago, into allegations of gross misconduct against officers assigned to the Repeat Offenders Programme Task Force (ROPTF).
However, a report in the Trinidad Express Wednesday said investigators are likely to ask for more time to complete the complex report. The paper said Williams told its reporter that he will decide after receiving a preliminary report whether to grant more time for the probe.
Williams ordered the investigation after getting reports that officers from the unit were allegedly implicated in several homicides along the East West corridor, and had tipped off known gang leaders about exercises police. He sent 35 officers on "immediate leave".
The suspended officers are scheduled to report to Williams next week at which time Williams will decide on whether they can return to the unit.
