Several key members of the United States congress held a function in honour of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar Saturday night at which they toasted her as a dynamic and visionary leader.
Among the officials hosting the Prime Minister were Congressman Edolphus Towns, a senior political figure and former head of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke. They represent communities in and around New York.
In speeches, they said they were happy at Persad-Bissessar election and they wished her administration success. They also expressed interest in working alongside the Prime Minister.
Persad-Bissessar expressed grateful thanks at the reception in her honour, adding that she is committed to improving the quality of life of nationals of Trinidad and Tobago.
Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan spoke of Persad-Bissessar’s successes, including her leadership roles in Caricom and the Commonwealth.
The function was attended by a number of other prominent elected U.S. officials.
