She will head to New York again, this time to attend the 65th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations and to honour a commitment made to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to attend and address the General Assembly.
Ban met with Persad-Bissessar at the CARICOM summit in Montego Bay Jamaica in July. Government officials expect the Prime Minister to leave for New York after she makes her contribution in the Budget debate this week.
During her visit to New York she also plans to hold discussions with other government representatives on matter of mutual interest and of interest to CARICOM.
These include:
- democracy and human rights in Haiti
- the advancement of women
- preventing and combating corruption consistent with the UN Convention against Corruption
- agricultural development and food security
- crime prevention and criminal
