Back to the Savavannah

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar reversed her predecessor's ruling and returned the annual Independence day Parade to the Queen's Park Savannah Tuesday.

And the people welcomed the move.

Thousands flocked to the Savannah to celebrate the nation's 48th birthday and to watch the military parade.

They cheered the protective services, President Max Richards, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Opposition Leader Keith Rowley, cabinet ministers and other dignitaries.

And many joined the parade, with its live music, as it left the Savannah and moved on to the streets on the way to Police Headquarters at St. James. The Savannah was a big picnic ground for the day, which ended with a blaze of fireworks.
