Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has been meeting in New York with Trinidad and Tobago nationals and others who have an interest in the country and offering a singular message - that her People's partnership government is dedicated to service and serving all the people.
She made stops in Brooklyn and Queens after she arrived on Friday, accompanied by several cabinet ministers including Anil Roberts, Rudrawatee Nan Ramgoolam, Winston "Gypsy" Peters, Chandresh Sharma, Fazal Karim, and Roodal Moonilal.
At the Pfizer Auditorium at Polytechnic Institute of New York University she met about 100 guests at a special symposium where she answered questions about crime and education.
Later she attended a reception at a nightclub in Queen's where hundreds of supporters and fans greeted her.
One of the featured performers was Calypso Rose, who also engaged "Gypsy" in a short extempore contest.
The Prime Minister welcomed Trinidad and Tobago nationals and invited them to return home and help rebuild the country.
She made it clear that her government has banished divisiveness and racism and noted that she presides over an administration which sees everyone as equal.
All through her political appearances in 2010, starting with the UNC internal election, Persad-Bissessar's mantra had been unity and harmony. Her message was a simple one - in a country such as Trinidad and Tobago, there must never again be any form of discrimination based on race, class, gender and religion.
And when she took office as Prime Minister, she made it clear that all party symbols must disappear and everyone must be treated equally.
