Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar carries the Trinidad and Tobago national flag alongside Indian movie star Priety Zinta at the India Day parade in New York, Sunday. Persad-Bissessar was the guest of honour and the actress was the Parade Marshall. In photo below, the two women release doves to symbolise peace.The parade was only one of several events that involved the prime minister so far in her 10-day visit to the U.S.
She has also received pledges of more than TT$1 million in services from 25 consultant surgeons, which will strengthen the Children's Life Funds.
Press Secretary Gavin Nicholas said in addition all monies from fund raising events will go to the fund.
Tertiary Education Minister Fazal Karim, who had to return from the New York trip abruptly because of the murder of his cousin, told reporters Monday that contrary to what some critics are saying the trip is not a "lime" at taxpayers' expense.
Karim said the delegation is holding meetings with key stakeholders, all of who have express an interest in investing in Trinidad and Tobago. he said the Prime Minister would provide details on her return to the country next week.
