Trinidad and Tobago's new Police commissioner designate, Canadian Dwayne Gibbs, arrives in Port of Spain over the weekend to negotiate a remuneration package for his three-year contract.
A report in the NEWSDAY newspaper said Gibbs is expected to meet on Monday with Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and will also have meetings with the Director of Personnel Administration and officials from the Ministry of National Security.
Newsday said Gibbs, who lives in Alberta, is eager to take up the job and "impart my policing skills for the benefit of the people.”
Gibbs was the second most qualified person for the job on a short list of five. The number one candidate was dropped because of an apparent conflict of interest issue.
Gibbs has not yet resigned his job as the chief executive officer of the Mustard Seed Foundation in Canada, an organisation which caters to homeless persons, NEWSDAY reported.
