Ramnath returns to UNC, will campaign for People's Partnership

Kelvin Ramnath is coming out of political hibernation to join the People's Partnership campaign for the July 26 Local Government Election.

The surprise announcement was made Thursday night by UNC Chairman and acting Prime Minister Jack Warner at a meeting in Felicity.

Warner made the announcement as he closed his address at the meeting in which he implored people of Chaguanas to vote for the eight candidates of the UNC and COP who are contesting the election for the Borough of Chaguanas.

His speech was on the theme of unity and cooperation. He asked people to trust him and give the candidates their full support because "a vote for them is a vote for me."

Warner said he needs their support to deliver the services that Chaguanas needs.

He also lambasted dissident "mavericks" who have broken with party polices and are now running as independents against members of their own party. He said people have to understand where the real power lies to deliver services.

"Can Rowley give you box drains?" he asked, in reference to the new PNM leader Keith Rowley," to which he got the expected response. "Then how the hell an independent will give you anything?"

Warner, who is the MP for the area, spoke about neglect by the previous Manning government and made a long list of pledges to develop Chaguanas, including a people's mall and a multi-level car park. The projects he said are only the start.

Earlier the minister of health announced that the People's Partnership government is working on building two new health facilities for the Chaguanas area.

Warner also announced that he has recieved a proposal to ease the congestion at the Endeavour flyover and promised that the plan would be in place within three months. And he invited everyone to join him on Saturday as he launches the paving of seven roads in the area.

He was unapologetic for his emphasis on the development of transport infrastructure in rural communities, a point he made the day before when he launched the start of a project to pave the neglected Papourie Road in Barrackpore.

"Who vex, vex!" he declared as he announced that the emphasis on such projects will continue because the PNM administration behaved "as if the country ended at the Caroni bridge".

He said things have changed and now is the time for people everywhere to enjoy the wealth of the nation.
