Kelvin Ramnath returned to the political platform Friday night for the first time since his break with the new leadership of the United Naational Congress (UNC) and his subsequent elimination from the election lineup in the 2010 general election.
The founding member of the UNC spoke at a meeting of the People's Partnership in Tunapuna.
"Now that we have settled the issue of government," he said, "It is time to settle the question of local government and elect representatives who can deliver."
In a brief off-the-cuff speech the former MP for Couva South said he has waited "for 34 years to see the back of the PNM through the doors of Parliament forever" and predicted that at the next general election the PNM would be eliminated forever.
He urged supporters to repeat what they did on May 24 and help the People's Partnership deliver on its promises to make life better for citizens.
He joked that he thought of putting up his name for selection as a candidate but decided against it because he didn't think he would stand a chance against the 500 candidates to be screened.
He appealed to everyone to put their differences aside and work as a team. Ramnath stated that is normal for people to be disappointed when they are not selected but urged those who didn't make the cut to stand up for the party and help the coalition win on July 26.
"People voted for the People's Partnershuip to deliver ... I am confident that...we shall ensure victory when the election day comes," he said.
