Column: Sterilizing the body politic - by M.F.Rahman

The final act of sterilizing the national body politic must occur on July 26th 2010 via the Local Government Elections.

The cleansing of the political theatre began on May 24th 2010, when major amputation of PNM political limbs took place, being replaced by fresh body parts donated by the mainly UNC - COP enterprise.

The residual parts of PNM that were spared the scalpel are proving gangrenous and a danger to pristine political health.

Too much corruption is being shielded by the remnant party and too much venom is being poured on the rejuvenated body politic that is seeking to excise the gangrene and sterilize the environment.

The serial revelations of compounded corruption seem endless, and the remonstrations and pure mendacities that pour forth from PNM defenders seeking to stymie the new administration by baseless innuendo of future malfeasance is staggering.

The fateful Local Government elections are therefore a final opportunity to seal the PNM sepulcher and permit the nation a chance at co-operative government between Central and Local bodies, long denied by PNM intransigence.

The allegations of the PNM aimed at hoodwinking the public into transfusing life into its corrupt parts are hopefully wasted on an intelligent public that has seen the new Government set about keeping its campaign promises against all odds.

The PNM would have deferred LG Elections for as long as it took to discredit the institution and entrench its corrupt state enterprise model in its place. The wanton corruption that those state enterprises practiced has now been revealed.

Cost of governance will decline with emasculated corruption and the removal of corrupt officials from the corridors of power.

PNM diehards must vote against their corrupt membership or be tarred with that very stain of established corruption.

It would be a favour to the nation and to the PNM for them to lose the LGE comprehensively, as only thus will they face the reality of their party’s criminal neglect and corruption imposed for so long by an uncaring leader and party, once dedicated to the welfare of the people of the nation.

While we all share our own opinions about the political parties in Trinidad and Tobago, please don't make it hinder your ability to see the truth. There has been corruption and mistakes made by both parties throughout the years.
