Kamla Persad-Bissessad told supporters in San Fernando Friday that her People's Partnership government will deliver on its promise of a $3,000 pension for seniors with effect from September 1, 2010.
And she said it will extend to government pensioners who are now receiving pensions below that $3,000 ceiling.
The bill to amend the Senior Citizens' Grant Legislation in Parliament was presented in parliament Friday.
In presenting the amendment, Minister of the People Glen Ramadharsingh said the new structure will ensure that no person will receive an income that is less than $3,000 per month.
Persad-Bissessar reiterated that when she addressed supporters at Harris Promenade Friday at the launch of the People's Partnership Manifesto for the July 26 Local Government Election. (LGE).
She said she had pledged to introduce the pension measure within 30 days of convening Parliament and she has kept that promise along with several others.
One of the them is the pledge of laptop computers for students entering high school for the first time in September. She said the computers will be delivered as promised.
The Prime Minister also stated that her government is working on delivering within the first 120-days, all of the 32 pledges it made during the general election campaign.

And she called on citizens to have faith in the new government.
She noted that the opposition has been demanding that the government immediately deliver on all its promises and urged people not to let themselves be distracted. She said her government has been in office for less that two months and has hit the road running.
"They were there for nine years and they didn't do anything," she said.
