Kamla takes over Laventille

Kamla Persad-Bissessar showed up at a Mothers day function in the PNM heartland of Laventille Sunday and got hugs and a warm welcome from everyone.

Media reports suggested that the UNC leader charmed people who were saying she would be the next prime minister.

The Trinidad Express said Persad-Bissessar made a surprise visit, arriving before the event ended and went on stage, inviting everyone to join her in singing Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song’.

The paper said many people were pleased that the UNC leader blended in with the crowd, with some people remarking that Prime Minister Manning "never do that".

It quoted one woman as saying: "This rounds we watching things like that. You ever see Manning do something like that? She will bring the change this place need."

UNC Chairman Jack Warner, NJAC's Makandal Daaga and COP leader Winston Dookeran were also there. Dookeran distributed dozens of hampers. The UNC holds a public meeting in Laventille Monday night.
