Kamla pledges $100M fund for children who need medical help

Kamla Persad-Bissessar pledged on Thursday night that a People’s Partnership Government would establish a $100 million fund for children who need surgery overseas.

And she again made it clear that any government that she leads would scrap the property tax and the Trinidad and Tobago revenue Agency (TTRA).

The bill to establish the TTRA died when Parliament was dissolved for the May 24 general election but the property tax is on the staute books and just need to be implemented.

She told supporters at a meeting in Chaguanas that the PNM would introduce the controversial tax if they go back into office.

And she said she has insider information from the PNM camp that the tresuary is not in good shape and that if Manning gets back into government he plans on raises income tax and the value added tax to get money.

She said a PNM Government would also raise the taxes on cars and offered a way to beat the tax grab.

"If you want to avoid those increases in taxes you have to make sure and vote them out!" she declared.

She walked with a copy of the PNM's manifesto and said it is a worthless document full of promises that had been made before and never kept.

She gave a glimpse of the People's Partnership mainfesto being presented Friday morning, which she said is based on people, unlike the PNM's which is centred on mega projects that don't deliver anything to the people.

She said the whole idea behind the People's Partnership is to put people first, second and third.
