UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she doesn't expect any backlash from the party's decision. UNC Chairman Jack Warner said as far he knows there is no dissent.
Among those who have been left out are Ramesh L, Maharaj, Kelvin Ramnath, Mickela Panday, and Dr Hamza Rafeeq.
Former UNC leader Basdeo Panday did not offer himself for selection; the former prime minister plans to run as an independent in Chaguanas West against Jack Warner.
Commenting on the nominations, Panday's brother, Subhas who will not be running again in Princes Town, said he is disappointed. However he said the leader knows best and he called on all members to rally with the party and work to help defeat the People's National Movement (PNM).
