PNM knocks coalition again; says Kamla not able to lead

Patrick Manning is clinging to his theory that a coalition government won't last.

The political leader of the People's National Movement (PNM) reiterated his view Wednesday night at a political meeting in Tabaquite.
Manning predicted that a UNC-led coalition government would be a disaster.

"They talk unity but they don’t stand for the policies of unity...and if you vote for them, you eat what the devil knead," Manning told supporters.

"For a coalition government to work it must have unity on all sides, the government must have the people at heart, the leader must have political skill and political acumen. Without these things it will fall," he said.

He said when trouble breaks out in a coalition government, the players spend a lot of time trying to keep things together instead of taking care of the people’s business.

He spoke of the short-lived National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR) one-love movement of 1986 and said the various parties spent so much time looking after themselves that Prime Minister Robinson had to appoint a new cabinet within the first year.

Manning focused on UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, saying she lacks "the political acumen and strength" to lead the country.

And he suggested that she would not be able to take charge because of "the strong and dangerous men" around her. "She will reign and they will rule," he declared.

Tertiary Eucation Minister Christine Kangaloo appealed to voters to choose the PNM. “As my grandmother used to say, ‘do not put fowl to guard your corn’. Vote for the PNM, it’s the only stable party.”

To my people: If you stay with what we have now, we would continue to get what we always got from Manning and his operatives. The question is: Is our quality of life better today after eight years under Manning's proven "leadership"? Everything else is irrelevant. Time to try someone else, remember that if you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got. No health, no security, etc while the nations wealth is wasted. Time for change.
